ADVENTURE TRAVEL

Destination: Costa Rica

Towering volcanoes reaching upwards of eleven thousand feet, rivers the temperature of bathwater which course through dense, untamed jungle, a cascading waterfall tucked behind every turn, warm water diving, hundreds of miles of coastline, in a country which possesses more forward thinking in the field of ecological preservation than anywhere else in the world...you'd think this was an adventure planner's fantasy, a late night reverie combining all sorts of travel guidebooks and brochures. But no, this is what is called Costa Rica.

Granted, there's no skiing mind you, well, no snow skiing, but there's just about everything else, including a spectacular network of high flying trolleys in the rainforest that would make a circus acrobat jealous. The experience of Costa Rica is in the experiencing, so while you can simply lie on a beach, you simply must not do so. It is not permitted. Costa Rica beckons that the adventurer be prepared to charge full speed ahead.

Destination: Vancouver Island

When you think of adventure travel, do you think of the Pacific Northwest, and Canada's Vancouver Island? Well, if you don't, this is one place you should put on your list.

Vancouver Island is one special place. Where else do eagles drift overhead while orcas and dolphins frolic in the waters as you paddle by? Where else will you bathe in hot springs on uninhabited wilderness islands, and snowboard on a mountain snowfield in the same day?

Vancouver Island is the gem of British Columbia's west coast. Much of the island seems wild and primitive, unchanged since the first humans travelled it shores over ten thousand years ago. Although the descendents of those first inhabitants lived off the abundant resources of the sea and the forest for countless generations, in the seventeen hundreds, the coming of the British changed the island forever. For today's visitor, there's a pleasant European atmosphere in many of the island's communities, especially in the capital city of Victoria.

So pack your skis, your scuba gear, your kayak and your mountain bike, and get ready to experience a great wilderness travel destination.
